A number of university initiatives are aimed at enhancing the college
experience for Ohio State students. Among these are Living-Learning
Programs (LLPs), unique residence hall environments designed to
increase student success and retention by expanding learning beyond
the classroom. By providing a residential experience that is
academically focused and supportive, creating a seamless learning
environment that integrates the social and intellectual growth of
participating students, LLPs help groups of students to adjust to the
academic and social demands of college, while promoting involvement in
the Ohio State community. Another program promoting student retention
is the First Year Experience (FYE), created to provide critical
opportunities for students to develop as unique individuals, learning
to define success and achieve goals on their own terms. FYE leads
campus-wide collaborative efforts that give new students - nearly 6,000
each year - the resources and support they need to make a smooth
transition to Ohio State; to return as sophomores; and, ultimately, to
graduate and join the ever-growing ranks of Ohio State success
stories.
