The Ohio State University is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student
body; enhancing and better serving those students is a key strategy of the university's
Academic Plan. Need and merit-based scholarships have become increasingly vital
in the lives of our talented students, who in many cases require some form of
financial aid to attend a four-year institution. As college costs continue to
escalate, the necessity for need and merit-based aid for our students is ever
greater. Offering ample need and merit-based financial aid through scholarships
and fellowships provides educational opportunities to thousands of students each
year - many who may not otherwise have chosen Ohio State or been able to attend
college without this level of support. Gifts to support scholarships on an annual
basis can be made in perpetuity by setting up a named endowment fund - the annual
income from which funds are used to support the scholarship - or by setting up
a current use fund - an account that the donor makes gifts to on an annual basis
in order to support their scholarship. Providing financial assistance for deserving
students remains a crucial priority of the University. Ohio State continues to
fulfill its land-grant mission of public service through ongoing fund-raising
efforts to support scholarships, fellowships, and other student programs.
