Key commits $1 million in support of Ohio State student leadership initiatives

Keith B. Key, former football player, alumnus, and Foundation Board Director at The Ohio State University, has committed $1 million to the Office of Student Life to support the newly named Keith B. Key Center for Student Leadership and Service located in the Ohio Union. “It’s always been important to my wife, Donica, and to me, to give back and find creative ways to support the community,” says Key. “We want to leave a path that others can follow and help to remove barriers along the way.” MORE

Ohio State’s India Gateway opens doors to enhanced partnerships

Last month, President Gee traveled to Mumbai to officially open the university’s second global Gateway. Officials say this newly strengthened relationship will improve recruitment, student experience, and alumni and corporate relations in the world’s second-most populous nation. Also expected to increase: internship and study abroad opportunities for students, teaching collaborations for Ohio State faculty, and resources for Ohio-connected companies. MORE

Two of the Lost Boys of Sudan are finally at home in Columbus

When war broke out in southern Sudan in 1987, thousands of panicked boys ran into the wilderness. They fought through one nightmarish ordeal after another, and many did not survive. Now, two of the Lost Boys of Sudan are proud Ohio State graduates, and have shared their incredible story with Ohio State Alumni Magazine. MORE

Go behind the scenes of Zero Waste at Ohio Stadium

In one segment of the latest “O-H-I-O” episode recently aired on the Big Ten Network, viewers get an insider’s look at the Zero Waste initiative transforming the way Ohio Stadium handles its trash. As the largest stadium in the country to attempt to divert 90% of materials from the landfill, the ’Shoe is dotted with recycling and composting bins, encouraging the more than 100,000 fans at each home football game to dispose of garbage wisely. After successful career, electrical engineering alumnus pays forward

The first member of his family to graduate from college, J. Richard Belville worked with Motorola and General Electric thanks to the technical background he received as an Ohio State student. As he looks back at his time on campus, he also looks ahead to the future in hopes his support will leave a lasting legacy in research and in developing new treatments for heart and cancer patients. Preschoolers can become better readers thanks to one small change, study finds

According to new Ohio State research, parents and teachers can give a big boost to preschoolers’ reading skills by making specific references to print while reading to kids. As study co-author Shayne Piasta demonstrates, pointing out letters and words on the page and showing how you read from left to right and top to bottom helps children crack the code of language.
