Originally from Chandigarh, India, Aditi Singh is a senior enrolled in the Fisher College of Business studying marketing and international business. Her mind was made up to attend Ohio State, but “being offered the International Buckeye Scholarship was like a cherry on the cake,” she says. “It made me very confident in my decision.”
Why did you choose to attend Ohio State?
It was difficult to choose a college while sitting thousands of miles away in a different country. The information available online was the only thing to rely on to make this life-changing decision. Besides being a renowned university, Ohio State met all the requirements I was looking for in a college. Along with good academics, it offers many out-of-the-classroom experiences through various student organizations and events hosted by the university. Most important, Ohio State offered diversity. Being from a different country and culture, I was looking for a place that understands and values diversity. Ohio State was the answer to all my questions.
How would you describe your Ohio State experience so far?
Ohio State has been so much more than what I had expected. I have had the opportunity to do so many things while I have been here. The variety of classes has allowed me to pursue things that I had thought to be unattainable. The exposure that this prestigious university has given me is invaluable, allowing me to not only achieve my career goals but also fulfill my personal goals. There is so much to do and get involved with on this campus that I have never felt home sick being thousands of miles away from my family and friends. While my overall experience at Ohio State has been great, the thing that stands out for me was the opportunity to showcase my talent of Indian dance form at the Taste of OSU event. It was an honor to perform something that I value so much in front of a crowd of several hundred and be appreciated for it.
What have your scholarships allowed you to do?
Out of state fees can be a burden on anyone’s pocket. The financial aid that I have received from the university has helped to lighten that burden. It has enabled me to concentrate and get involved in other things with a free mind rather than worring about whether I will be able to complete college without any financial troubles.
What would you say to your benefactors if they were here now?
I am really grateful to them for being so generous and would like to thank them if I had the opportunity to meet them. Their initiative and generosity inspires me to do the same when I graduate. Giving back is important to me because I can relate with the situation of future students. If my contribution would help to make someone’s dream of a college education come true, I would not hesitate.
